John C. Flippen, Jr.
John C. Flippen, Jr. is Managing Director of Petroleum Capital and Real Estate, LLC (PetroCapRE) and is a principal in the organization. Mr. Flippen has over two decades of experience as an entrepreneur and investor with successes in leveraged buyouts, turnarounds, and startups.
Mr. Flippen provides advisory services for small to middle market companies, such as, corporate financing, valuations, and financial modeling on both the buy-side and sell-side within a broad range of business sectors. A large part of his business practice focuses on gasoline retail outlets and jobbers. Within this sector he has provided valuations, constructed deal packages, secured financing and/or facilitated divestitures for more than 50 individual deals involving over 2500 locations valued at approximately $2.5 billion and ranging in size from $5MM to $300MM. Mr. Flippen also has experience advising companies within the media, technology and hospitality industries.
Prior to establishing PetroCapRE, Mr. Flippen was a partner at CrowderCorp which provides similar services. Before providing advisory services, Mr. Flippen developed a niche retail business in the music industry that captured considerable market share and grew to become one of the top five companies of its kind in the US. Mr. Flippen has also had experience in managing a turn around situation successfully. In less than 2 years, he took responsibility for the Mason & Hamlin Companies, a piano manufacturing company with 70,000 square feet of operations, revitalized its failing operations and helped the company emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Mr. Flippen is a speaker and expert witness on the valuation of convenience stores and petroleum marketers. He earned his MBA from the Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia and graduated with honors (Beta Gamma Sigma) from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. Recently he completed a China residency program at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) (2007).
